a nature inspired tablescape for the holidays

it's almost here, friends...christmas! i love me a good christmas party, brunch, dinner, basically any reason for good food, family, or friends - especially around the holidays. one thing i knew wanted for our christmas breakfast this year is a simple, rustic, natural tablescape with lovely white dishes. believe it or not, one thing i have been lacking in my life are simple, clean-lined white dinnerware. these matte finished ones from carthage.co are absolute perfection. they provide a beautiful backdrop for any tablescape! i have been craving such a set and am so excited to have these for christmas breakfast at my house with my family, including my sweet in-laws.

i mean, can't you just picture these beauties with any setting?!? rustic, glamorous, scandinavian, bohemian, you name it, and their neutrality matches any occasion! even the pale pink pitcher fits in nicely.

here are a few of my go-tos for a last minute, simple tablescape:

1. start with a good foundation/base - such as the la marsa dinner set i have here. i chose the chalk color, again in the matte finish.

2. lighting is key - i seldom use overhead lighting, but if it's a must, it must be on a dimmer. use other sources for light. my favorite source is candles. i mean, who doesn't look in candlelight?!? ;) everyone feels a bit more spoiled and glamorous with some candlelight. i prefer unscented candles at the dinner table as not to compete with other scents, such as the food, etc.

3. use nature's bounty - think fresh-cut greens during christmastime; they're simple, inexpensive/free, and smell heavenly. also, think of using fruits this time of the year; oranges, pomegranates, cranberries, pears, and so on. sometimes, you can find fresh cuttings of greenery at your local nursery or tree farm for free. don't be afraid to ask! my coasters here are free from a local nursery. i saw them on the ground and asked if i could have them. the employee was excited that i wanted them because he said he too thought they were too beautiful to be thrown out. they're simply the shavings of the christmas tree trunks. i love them, holes and all.

4. keep it simple or go big - it's totally up to you! i chose simple this time around because i'm digging simple these days.

5. plan the menu ahead of time - if you love to cook up a gourmet meal, go for it! however, if cooking isn't your thing, go with take out or something from your local deli! don't feel the need to be someone you're not at an already stressful time of the year. your guests will have fun if you're having fun.

i have several sets of dishes/china, but one thing i have learned is that i tend to gravitate towards the "easier ones". these are the one that i can put in the dishwasher and microwave, and again, these dishes allow for both of those! this makes cleanup and everyday life so much easier and just a bit more enjoyable in my book. ;)

i also love how each piece pairs beautifully with each other and how the clean lines make these pieces timeless. timeless is always good. the rounded lip on the salad plate may be my favorite ever.

the simple attention to detail makes my heart pitter patter and carthage.co definitely has achieved all of those things! to top it off, all of their la marsa full sets are currently discounted for $38.54 a set {original price is $47}! however, don't delay because today {december 19th} is the last day to order in time for before christmas delivery. did i mention 5% of all sales go to a local food bank closest to each customer's billing zip code?!? oh and extra bonus...currently shipping is free! it really doesn't get better than that!

so treat yo' self, or someone else, this season! be sure to take a look at all of the beautiful stoneware carthage.co has to offer! remember, you can mix and match too. :)

i really do hope you take time to enjoy this holiday season - whether it's a dinner party for twenty or for two. take time to stop and enjoy the simple pleasures in life.
